El Ron Prohibido is a rum with a tradition in Mexico, its name of “forbidden rum” having behind it a story as fascinating as this drink is interesting. It is said that in the 1800s, Mexican rum was transported to Spain in barrels previously used to store sweet wine, so that during the trip it acquired unique sweet-bitter nuances, highly appreciated. Feeling threatened by the popularity of Mexican rum, Spanish producers asked King Philip V to ban the import of this rum, hence the name preserved to this day. El Ron Prohibido Reserva 12 years is the result of the exemplary combinestion of rum fermented in wine barrels and distilled in a still with a column, using the Solera method. The aromatic complexity of this rum is due both to the specifics of the barrels in which the rum is kept, and to their different age, characteristics that bring together splendid nuances for an extraordinary tasting.
