The story of this single malt Irish whiskey begins in 1966 when Mark Edwin Andrews bought Knappogue Castle, an old 15th century castle in Ireland, left in ruins. He and his wife, a prominent architect, then embarked on an ambitious restoration program, in an effort to restore the structure to its original state of glory and grandeur. Meanwhile, Andrews began buying stills from the country’s top distilleries. Then followed the purchase of barrels to start the production of single malts under the Knappogue Castle label. 16-year-old Knappogue Castle is the representstive single malt for this distillery that spends 14 years in bourbon barrels for a longer maturation, followed by a shorter maturation that ends in Oloroso sherry barrels to complete a minimum. for 16 years. This adds intense notes of sweet fruit and floral aromas like a breeze.
