A special drink created in France and with a chosen name (Lillet), this drink is classified as a wine flavored in EU law, but in most menus it is part of the category of aperitif drinks. In the composition we find a mixture of wines from the region 85% Bordeaux (Semillon for Blanc and Rosé, Merlot for Rouge) and 15% macerated liqueurs, mostly citrus liqueurs (sweet orange peel from Spain and Morocco and Haitian green bitter orange peels). The composition is mix in oak vats until final blend. During the aging process, Lillet is handled like a Bordeaux wine (subjected to finishing, filtering, etc.). “Lillet” belongs to a family of appetizers known as tonic wines due to the addition of quinine liqueur.
