Founded in 1827, Purcari Winery is the oldest winery in Moldova. In two centuries has managed to become a popular winery in Central and Western Europe according to Decanter, DAWA and also Effervescent du Monde.
By the late 12th century, Moldova’s wine industry had become an important part of the economy of south-eastern Europe. The region as a whole offers favorable conditions for viticulture. As a result, certain areas are particularly fertile for growing the most full-bodied grapes.
The village of Purcari and the vineyards of the monastery of Agon Zograf lie at the heart of this special terroir. Recognizing the similarities in soil and climate with the Bordeaux region, French settlers formed partnerships with the monastery. Later began cultivating the special vintages of Purcari in the 18th century.
